On Thursday, 2 October 2025, I met with leading Sri Lankan media outlets — Daily News, Daily Mirror, Sunday Times, Colombo Times, and Muslim Media Forum — to discuss ongoing developments at the UN Security Council. I underlined that Sri Lankan and Maldivian media should highlight how international law is being undermined by the political motives of the U.S. and some European countries seeking to revive expired UN sanctions against Iran. Iran firmly insists on full compliance with UNSCR 2231 and the definitive end of previous sanctions. In this path, Russia, China, and other friendly nations have also voiced their concerns at the Security Council.
