Foreign Ministry’s statement on the US Military Aggression Against I.R of Iran

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran vehemently condemns the aggressive attacks by the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran over the past 24 hours. These brutal attacks not only constitute a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly paragraph 4 of Article 2, but also represent a grave threat to international peace and security, having frustrated all efforts of the past months to reduce tensions and establish tranquility in the Western Asia region.

Although only 25 days have passed since the signing of the War Termination MoU, the U.S. regime has blatantly violated nearly all components of the MoU and, by attacking Iran's transportation infrastructure, fishing boats and cargo vessels, as well as meteorological facilities and buildings, has committed the most heinous war crimes.

The U.S. regime, moreover, with its ostentatious interference in the process of implementing the necessary arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, has provoked the return of insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and the disruption of international commercial navigation. At the same time, the terrorist army of the United States, by using the territory and facilities of countries located on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf to prepare its military aggression against Iran, has effectively turned those countries into a stage for its illegal and criminal war against the Iranian people.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, in reiterating its determination to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against the military aggression of the United States and any other aggressor party, warns against any participation or cooperation with the aggressor parties.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further reiterates that neighboring countries, in accordance with international law, have the obligation to prevent aggressor parties from using their territory and facilities to commit military aggression against Iran, and the origin and point of departure of attacks against Iran will be legitimate targets of the defensive strikes by the brave Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. 

The U.S. government, simultaneously with the breach of its commitments, continues its campaign of disseminating lies and fake news to twist the facts and justify its violations of the law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that what the President of the United States claimed about the outcome of the Muscat negotiations on Saturday is pure falsehood and the product of desperation; the Muscat negotiations were fundamentally focused on arrangements for the management of the Strait of Hormuz and transit routes, and, regrettably, the United States, with open and covert pressures on Oman, prevented any result from being reached on the matter.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in expressing regret over the non-constructive stance of the United Nations Secretariat regarding America’s blatant lawbreaking and bullying, recalls the responsibility of the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to address the violation of international peace and security, and demands that the aggressor parties be held accountable and that the perpetrators and executors of the crimes committed against the Iranian people be prosecuted and punished.
